A breakdown of Saturday's U.S. Amateur semifinals

And then there were four -- and all of them are from beyond the U.S. borders.

The U.S. Amateur champion will be crowned on Sunday, but Saturday's semifinals promise to be fantastic match-ups between four international amateur stars.

CONNERS AT A GLANCE

World Amateur Golf Ranking: 39

Age: 21

Hometown: Listowel, Ontario, Canada

Road to the semis: Stroke play (T-38); def. Roldolfo Cazaubon, 5 and 4; def. Bryson Dechambeau, 2 and 1; def. Patrick Rodgers, 5 and 3; def. Neil Raymond 5 and 3.

FITZPATRICK AT A GLANCE

World Amateur Golf Ranking: 2

Age: 18

Hometown: Sheffield, England

Road to the semis: Stroke play (T-3); def. Gerrit Chambers, 4 and 3; def. Blake Morris, 4 and 3; def. Gavin Hall, 4 and 3; def. Adam Ball, 4 and 3.

THE MATCH-UP: Conners has a smooth, nice tempo about his golf game, and his short game has been spot on. That’s one of the main reasons he advanced to the semis. Fitzpatrick is very consistent off the tee and minimizes his mistakes. When he does mess up, he stays cool and relaxed. Fitzpatrick hasn’t been past the 15th hole yet in match play and tomorrow he’ll show you why he’s one of the best up-and-coming stars of this game once again.

PREDICTION: Fitzpatrick, 4 and 3

Oliver Goss vs. Brady Watt

WATT AT A GLANCE

World Amateur Golf Ranking: 9

Age: 22

Hometown: Perth, Australia

Road to the semis: Stroke play co-medalist; def. Sean Walsh, 5 and 3; def. Seth Reeves, 3 and 2; def. Charlie Hughes, 2 and 1; def. Scottie Scheffler, 1 up.

GOSS AT A GLANCE

World Amateur Golf Ranking: 13

Age: 19

Hometown: Perth, Australia

Road to the semis: Stroke play (T-3); def. Toni Hakula, 1 up; def. Carr Vernon, 2 up; Xander Schauffele, 3 and 1; def. Brandon Matthews, 5 and 3.

THE MATCH-UP: These two Aussies go way back, and it seems that Goss has Watt’s number. Goss won the Australian state amateur stroke play, the state amateur match play and then in a five-hole playoff at the Men’s West Australian Open, all against Watt. It’s a new championship though, and for that matter, they are playing in a totally different country. Watt didn’t play his best during the quarterfinals and still survived.

PREDICTION: Watt, 2 and 1
