2012-13 Golfweek rank: 12
Go-to girl: Junior SooBin Kim
Season outlook: The Huskies return all five starters from a team that was ranked No. 1 at last season's midway point. Washington won two of its four fall starts and finished runner-up in their other two. In their last eight tournaments, the Huskies finished second three times, but failed to advance to the NCAA Championship after a disappointing 10th-place finish at NCAA regionals.
The Huskies will be led by junior SooBin Kim and sophomore Charlotte Thomas, each of whom won individual titles and posted seven top 10s last season. Kim had the lowest scoring average in Washington history (71.97), and Thomas, of England, captured the Oregon State Invitational to become the first Washington player to win her college debut.
Sophomore Ying Luo and juniors Cyd Okino and Jennifer Yang also contributed to the team’s success last year, each playing in 11 or more events and combining for five top 10s. Luo, a walk-on freshman last year, played as an individual at the NCAA Championship.
The Huskies are still a young team and will again look for early season success. With more experience, this time they hope to carry the momentum over to the spring and make a deep postseason run.
