Ernst fires 10-under 62 in third round of Safeway Classic
It was moving day at the LPGA’s Safeway Classic and Austin Ernst took full advantage of it.
Ernst, a 2013 rookie, fired a 10-under 62 on Saturday during the third round at Columbia Edgewater Country Club in Portland, Ore.
Currently, Ernst sits T-3 at 12 under after starting the day T-66. Her round included 11 birdies and one bogey, which came at the par-4 11th. She birdied six consecutive holes on Nos. 5-10.
Leader Pornanong Phatlum has yet to tee off yet. Phatlum is at 14 under for the tournament.
Ernst played two seasons at LSU before deciding to turn professional. She won the 2011 NCAA Individual Championship as a freshman. She was a semifinalist at the 2011 U.S. Women’s Amateur and part of the 2012 Curtis Cup Team.
She has one top-10 finish this season, which came at the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic. Ernst has played in all four of the 2013 major championships. She made the cut at the U.S. Women’s Open where she was T-48.
