VIDEO: Crazy golf shot off of fence post
Thursday, December 12, 2013
Here's a candidate for golf shot of the year . . .
Matt Wheatcroft, a business owner and amateur golfer from Derbyshire, England, was playing alongside former European Ryder Cupper Brian Barnes in the British Par-3 Championship when he was faced with a tough second shot at the 95-yard fourth hole at the Cromwell Course at Nailcote Hall.
His ball came to rest left of the green and about 6 inches from a wooden fence post. A shot facing the green wouldn't allow for a backswing, so Wheatcroft opted to hit the ball off the post and let it bounce back toward the green.
The shot worked out much better than Wheatcroft likely expected, as the ball ended up within a few feet of the cup. (Read more about the shot here.)
"Mickelson couldn't have done it," Barnes said.
Said Wheatcroft: "I'm used to playing crazy golf."
