Coltart chosen to lead Europeans at Palmer Cup

Andrew Coltart, a former European Ryder Cupper, will coach the Europeans at the 2013 and ‘14 Palmer Cups. Stanford assistant Philip Rowe, an Englishman and former Palmer Cupper, has been tapped to assist him.
Coltart, a native of Dumfries, Scotland, put together a stellar junior and amateur golf career before turning professional in 1991. He played the European Tour from 1993 to 2007 and won twice – at the 1998 Qatar Masters and 2001 Great North Open. He also won the Australian PGA Championship in 1994 and 1997, claimed the PGA Tour of Australasia’s Order of Merit for 1997-98 and appeared in 12 Open Championships, three PGA Championships and two U.S. Opens. He played Tiger Woods in singles at the 1999 Ryder Cup.
He was “humbled and honored” by the Palmer Cup nod.
“There is no greater honor as a player than to represent your continent, and for a European no bigger test than to compete against America,” Coltart said. “Europe and America have some incredible talent, which will be on display at Wilmington (Del.) Country Club in June, and I look forward to joining up with Philip Rowe and the European players to do battle in a manner in which Mr. (Arnold) Palmer would be very proud.”
Alabama head coach Jay Seawell will coach the Americans in 2013 with help from Arizona head coach Jim Anderson.
The U.S. leads the Palmer Cup series, 8-7-1.
