Scheffler takes 2-shot lead at HP Boys Champ
Scott Scheffler of Dallas carded five birdies en route to a 4-under 68 to take a two-shot lead over Brad Dalke of McKinney, Texas, at the AJGA's HP Boys Championship.
After Round 1, Scheffler finds himself in a familiar position. At the 2012 Championship at Carlton Woods' Fazio Course, Scheffler shot an opening-round, 6-under 66 before a second-round 77 and final-round 80, and finished tied for 24th.
Scheffler has looked to keep his play consistent through all three rounds.
"I hit my irons well and stayed in play. I didn't feel well before the round, but I figured it out," said Scheffler, who is No. 3 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Boys Rankings.
"I’m off to a good start," Scheffler said. "And I just want to keep it up.”
Rigel Fernandes of Bradenton, Fla., Gordon Neale of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., and Cameron Champ of Sacramento, Calf., are tied for third at 1-under 71.
