Behind Stackhouse's 61, Stanford wins Peg Barnard
Stanford outscored the next closest team by 15 shots in the final round of its own Peg Barnard Invitational. Freshman Mariah Stackhouse was responsible for picking up many of those strokes.
Stackhouse set a new NCAA women’s scoring record on Sunday with her 10-under 61 at the par-71 Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif. Stackhouse easily won the individual competition for her first career victory as the Cardinal picked up their first team victory of the year.
Stackhouse was 10 under through 12 holes. Her card included two eagles and eight birdies. She finished the tournament at 12-under 130 after a first-round 69.
Fellow freshman Lauren Kim also finished in the top 5 for Stanford. The Cardinal finished the tournament at 1-over 859 on their home track, 14 shots ahead of runner-up California. UC Davis was third and Washington was fourth.
On the individual leaderboard, San Jose State’s Regina DeGuzman and UC Davis’ Demi Runas finished second to Stackhouse, 10 shots back.
