Siddikur, Matsuyama share lead at Open qualifying
Siddikur and Japanese amateur Hideki Matsuyama share the first-round lead at The Open Championship International Final Qualifying in Asia.
Siddikur, of Bangladesh, could become the first player to represent his country in golf’s oldest major championship after carding an opening-round 66. Matsuyama, the fifth-ranked amateur in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and the first Japanese amateur to play in the Masters Tournament in 2011, matched him.
China’s Mu Hu, Australian Scott Barr and Singaporeans Quincy Quek and Zhiqun Lam are a shot back in the two-day qualifier. Four players will qualify for the British Open at Muirfield from July 14-21.
