SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. –- With consecutive top-10s in his back pocket after a trip to the Middle East, Jason Dufner returns to the PGA Tour hoping to build on his momentum.
Dufner, a 12-1 favorite with Las Vegas oddsmakers, has contended in the past two Waste Management Phoenix Opens at TPC at Scottsdale, finishing tied for eighth last year after a runner-up showing in 2011.
Dufner, 35, an Auburn graduate, hasn’t won on the PGA Tour since the HP Byron Nelson Championship last May, but he has been consistent, with no missed cuts and five top 10s after his second victory in 2012.
After a T-18 at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions to start 2013, Dufner recorded consecutive T-9s in European Tour events in the Middle East: at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship and last week's Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.
Bubba Watson, coming off the flu that forced him out of last week's Farmers Insurance Open, Brandt Snedeker, Nick Watney and Rickie Fowler are 15-1 choices in Arizona.
In this week's Omega Dubai Desert Classic, Spaniard Sergio Garcia has been installed as the 5-1 favorite over England's Lee Westwood, an 8-1 choice.
Garcia finished second last week in Qatar, one shot off of winner Chris Wood's mark.
Westwood is making his 2013 debut after taking a significant time off that included moving his family from England to West Palm Beach, Fla.
Sweden’s Henrik Stenson is a 12-1 pick to win Dubai, and Denmark’s Thorbjorn Olesen is 20-1.
