Loar, Presnell, Hurley earns spots in WMPO

Ed Loar was this year's hard-luck case at Q-School, but he'll be on the PGA Tour this week. Loar, who failed to earn his Tour card after hitting approaches in the water on Q-School's final two holes, played his way into the Waste Management Phoenix Open via Monday qualifying.
PGA Tour rookie Alistair Presnell and John Hurley also earned spots via the qualifier. The Phoenix Open only awards three spots through Monday qualifying, instead of the usual four.
Presnell shot 67 to win the qualifier. Loar, Hurley, Aaron Watkins and Kent Eger took part in a playoff for the final two spots after shooting 68. Hurley made birdie on the first playoff hole to earn his spot, while Loar parred the third extra hole.
Presnell, 33, made the cut in two of three starts this season, with a best finish of 36th at the Sony Open. Missing the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open allowed him to play the Monday qualifier. The Monday finish at Torrey Pines kept players who made the cut and played Monday from participating in the Phoenix Open's qualifier. Presnell's best career PGA Tour finish was T-6 at the 2010 WGC-Cadillac Championship.
Hurley has conditional status on the Web.com Tour. He also Monday qualified for last year's John Deere Classic, but missed the cut. Hurley was a member of Texas A&M's 2009 NCAA title team. Loar has status on the Web.com Tour after winning in Panama last year.
