Cheyenne Woods posts 64 in Spain for clubhouse lead
Thursday, July 18, 2013
Amid all the British Open chatter, Tiger Woods’ niece deserves some Thursday-morning press for posting 8-under 64 in Round 1 of the Ladies European Tour’s Open de Espana.
Woods, who graduated from Wake Forest in 2012, had nine birdies and one bogey at the Club de Campo in Madrid, Spain. It gave her the early clubhouse lead, and the next closest player, Tanya Elosegui, trails by two shots.
The Open de Espana is Woods’ eighth LET event this season, and 64 is her lowest round by two shots (she shot a final-round 66 at the Lalla Meryem Cup to tie for 12th, her best finish this season). Woods entered LPGA Q-School in 2012, but didn't advance past the first stage.
Meanwhile, Woods’ uncle Tiger teed off at Muirfield at 9:45 a.m. EDT.
