Stackhouse wins North & South playoff for top seed
The match-play bracket is set for at the North & South Women’s Amateur. Stanford sophomore Mariah Stackhouse won a playoff for the top seed while Emma Lavy and Demi Runas prevailed in a playoff for the last of 16 match-play spots at Pinehurst (N.C.) No. 2.
Stackhouse, Hayley Bettencourt and Ashlan Ramsey finished regulation tied at 4-under 212, but Stackhouse made birdie on the first hole to win the stroke-play trophy and, more importantly, the top seed.
Stackhouse will face Arkansas’ Lavy in the first round while Bettencourt gets recent UC Davis graduate Demi Runas. Ramsey draws young Candian Brooke Henderson.
NCAA champion Annie Park of USC also made match play, and will meet Monifa Sealy of UCF. Ally McDonald, a Mississippi State junior who made a run at the NCAA title, gets Cyna Rodriguez, a former USC player.
The final three matches pit North Carolina’s Katherine Perry against junior player Yueer Cindy Feng, Georgia commit Rinko Mitsunaga against San Diego State’s Christine Wong and Cathleen Santoso, of New South Wales, against Columbia senior Michelle Piyapattra.
