I have just come off of a great two weeks! Two tournaments - two wins! I won the Georgia Womenʼs Match Play Championship last week in Braselton, Ga., and then won the Womenʼs Eastern Amateur Championship in Williamsburg Va.
The match play tournament was special because it was a Georgia State Golf Association event and it had been awhile since I had played in one of their events. I also played the first day and stayed the week with my future Clemson teammate Sloan Shanahan. After a 73 on the first day, I played pretty well the rest of the week. I ended all of my matches before the 15th hole including my 6&5 win over Ji Eun Baik in the finals. My confidence was up from the win heading to the Eastern Am and I felt like I trusted myself more than I have in the past couple of months.
I started out the tournament with a bogey free 66 which is my lowest competitive round in a while. It was nice to shoot a low number on such a difficult course. I finished off the tournament with scores of 70-70, which was 7 under for the three days. I won the tournament by two shots. I only made four bogeys for the three days which is something I've been working on (minimizing mistakes) and I felt like that really helped my score this past week. I had a great host family in Williamsburg who allowed me to stay with them through the tournament which was really nice!
I am off to Dayton, Ohio, now to play in the Womenʼs Western Amateur. This is my first time playing the event, but I am looking forward to it. I will be going by myself again and staying with a host family. I feel like it is helping get me prepared for my college events in the fall because it is allowing me to be more independent. I remember hearing Jessica Kordaʼs dad sending her to Australia by herself as a pro and she won that week. It is nice to have my family with me, but there is also a big sense of accomplishment and confidence gained from doing it on my own.
I hope my next blog is filled with the same good news!
