Hitchner wins Greystone Invitational in playoff

Tyler Hitchner secured his Greystone Invitational victory on June 23 with a playoff victory over Caleb Sturgeon. Both players finished 72 holes of regulation at Greystone Golf and Country Club in Birmingham, Ala., with a 2-under 286 before entering the playoff.
Hitchner, a junior player who has won four Southeastern Junior Golf Tour events in the past year, made up the most ground in Round 3, when he shot a 3-under 69. He led by one entering the final round but Sturgeon, a junior at the University of South Carolina, forced the playoff with a final-round 71.
Scott Strohmeyer, a member of Alabama’s national championship-winning team, was joint third with John Tyner. Those players finished at 1-over 289.
Ryan Benton, Tom Lovelady and Cory Evans were fifth another shot back.
