Kevin Phelan, a senior from Waterford, Ireland, won his first career title at the John Hayt Invitational, finishing four shots ahead of teammate Sean Dale. Phelan's two-day score of 131 (64-67) bested the event's previous 36-hole mark by five shots. His first-round 64 also was a tournament record. Phelan had previously posted three runner-up finishes in his career. He is No. 7 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings.
