Player Diary: Ashlan Ramsey (Part 5)
I've had a crazy last few weeks between practicing, going to see my sister, Taylor, at Clemson University and trying to keep up with my schoolwork. Time has really flown by. . .
At Clemson, I went to a baseball game in the snow, which is very unusual for Clemson. We froze, but had a blast! It was good to see some of my future teammates, too, Jessica Hoang, Lauren Salazar, Riley Lovorn and Lauren Stephenson. I can't wait to be at Clemson full-time!
Last weekend I took a trip to Sea Island to get a lesson from my coach, Todd Anderson. He worked with me a lot on my wedges and short game. I also went out on the course with him and he helped me with course management and hitting different shots for different situations.
Aside from working on my game, I got to spend some time with Todd's son, Tucker, who was in a horrible car accident in September. He suffered a brain injury, several fractured vertebrae and a broken orbital socket. Even through this entire trauma, Tucker is doing great. He helped me with some drills that Todd gave me to do and even challenged me to a putting and chipping contest. Tucker has taught me a lot over the past few months. He has been an inspiration for me to never give up and stay strong in my faith. He is a true fighter and I admire him in so many ways!
That being said, I have been hard at work getting ready for the Kathy Whitworth Invitational next week in Forth Worth, Texas. I will be going alone and staying with a host family along with Shannon Aubert and Samantha Wagner. This will be my first time playing in the Kathy Whitworth Invitational, and I’ve heard great things about the event. Kathy Whitworth will be the captain of the Team USA at the Junior Solheim Cup that will be held this summer in Denver. I am hoping to earn a spot on the team. I played in the Junior Solheim Cup in 2011 when it was in Ireland and had an amazing experience.
