Peter Thorseth of the United Kingdom fired an even-par 72 to win his first AJGA title, posting a four-shot victory at the 54-hole Goodman Networks Junior at Traditions in Bryan, Texas.

Karen Chung fired a final-round, 4-under 68 to win the girls division, her fifth career AJGA title.

Played at the par-72 Traditions Club at Texas A&M, Thorseth finished the tournament at 6 under overall, beating a field of 90 boys.

Thorseth's start to the final round was a bit shaky with a double bogey at the par-3 second hole, but his short game kept him atop the leaderboard.

“Each time I dropped a shot, I was able to bounce back with some birdies, which was huge,” said Thorseth, who birdied four holes Sunday.

Thorseth has played in AJGA events for four years and his family plans to move back to Houston in the summer.

“I've come close a few times. It feels good to finally take it to the next level, especially at such a great event,” said Thorseth, a high school junior. “It feels good that I've finally proven to myself that I could win.”

Jonathan Vasquez and Austin Connelly finished T-2 at 2 under, while Doug Ghim and Connor Black were T-4 at 1 under.

On the girls side, Chung used an opening even-par front nine to take a one-shot lead over Jordan Lippetz, a lead she'd never relinquish.

“Honestly, I wasn't really thinking of winning today because I was three shots behind Jordan, but I got lucky towards the end,” said Chung, a USC commit. “On the back nine, after I made my second birdie, I kind of looked at the scoreboard and thought that maybe I had a chance.

“This is my fifth year here at Traditions, and every year I've played horribly, so this is pretty significant for me,” she said.

Lakareber Abe shot a 2-under 70 Sunday to finish second at 1-over 217. Kristen Gillman was third at 2-over 218.
