In what many consider to be golf's "fifth major," there is no question that the quality of the field at the Players Championship will present many different opinions on who the favorite at Sawgrass might be this week.

Of course, there is Tiger Woods and his three victories in 2013. There is also Adam Scott and his Masters victory. This is not to mention defending champ Matt Kuchar.

Yet, none of those players registers on the radar of our panel of experts this week.

Luke Donald is the most popular pick, mostly due to his short-game prowess. Lee Westwood and Phil Mickelson also register as favorites, with Lefty coming off a disappointing bogey-bogey-par finish at the Wells Fargo Championship to fall out of the lead.

As for the panel, Nick Masuda stayed in the outright lead after Wells Fargo, with Lance Ringler right on his heels.

Take a look at this week's picks:

Rank Winner Wild Card Last Week
Rude Lee Westwood

Has three top-6 finishes here, including T-4 two years ago. This tournament, which is the hardest in golf to forecast, rewards top ball-strikers like Westwood. Tied for fourth at Wells Fargo Championship last week despite battling chest infection all week.

Tim Clark

Coming off a couple of top 25s, so his game is fine. Won here in 2010. Course suits the straight hitter.

Winner: Webb Simpson ($37,073); wild card: D.A. Points ($97,150). 2013 total: $5,576,645

McCabe Luke Donald

Has been quiet of late, but on a course suited to his game, I like his chances. T-6 a year ago, T-14 two seasons ago, he's steadily played very well here.

Tim Clark

Like Donald, his game fits well at the Stadium Course, which explains why he won here in 2010. When healthy, has broken par eight of his last night rounds at this course.

Winner: Lee Westwood ($294,800) ; wild card: Hunter Mahan ($12,596). 2013 total: $5,185,744

Martin Luke Donald

Seems like the perfect course for him, and his results show. He finished in the top six in his past two appearances at TPC Sawgrass.

Brian Harman

GComing off a 10th-place finish at the Wells Fargo Championship. Made the cut in his debut here last year.

Winner: Webb Simpson ($37,073) ; wild card: John Peterson (MC). 2013 total: $2,828,621

Ringler Phil Mickelson

You have to catch Mickelson on the up and signs point to this week being a good week. Played well last week at Wells Fargo leading after Rounds 2 and 3 and his form at TPC is good. He won here in 2007 and has made 11 cuts in a row.

Kevin Streelman

All about current form and Streelman has been good lately. Three top-6 showings in last six starts including win in Tampa. T-6 last week at Wells Fargo.

Winner: Sergio Garcia ($97,150); wild card: Padraig Harrington (MC). 2013 total:$6,690,464

Masuda Luke Donald

Has finished in the top six three times at TPC Sawgrass (in seven cuts made). He might not have the distance off the tee, but his short game at Sawgrass will mean more.

Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano

This is a gut pick. He has four top-20 finishes this season and he has the steadiness to conquer Sawgrass.

Winner: Rory McIlroy ($148,517); wild card: Russell Henley ($20,904). 2013 total: $6,782,832
