Preview: Chanticleer Senior Invitational
Along with birdies and eagles, southern charm and tradition will be at the top of the leaderboard as top senior amateurs visit Greenville, S.C., for the Chanticleer Senior Invitational.
The 54-hole Golfweek-ranked event set to begin May 29 will be contested at Greenville Country Club's Chanticleer Course, which was designed by Robert Trent Jones. The course is No. 146 on the Golfweek's Best modern list.
Rees Jones, responsible for Chanticleer’s 2002 renovation said, “Greenville Country Club’s Chanticleer course will be an excellent venue for a national senior invitational.
“Although Chanticleer contains some strong, demanding holes, length is not the overwhelming aspect of the course….strategy and accuracy will be at a premium for the tournament, as mastering the Chanticleer course will require excellence in each phase of the game.”
The tournament is only in its third year, but already has attracted an impressive field of nationally ranked senior and super-senior players.
Ted Smith, No. 1 in the Golfweek Super Senior rankings, Walt Martin and Joe Pavoni highlight the field.
