Man drowns in pond at South Carolina golf course

An 86-year-old man drowned after falling into a water hazard at a Hilton Head Island, S.C., golf course on Sunday.
Lawrence Monroe Slovin of Hilton Head Island fell into the pond at the Cypress of Hilton of Head, a three-hole course, at about 2 p.m. Sunday. His playing competitor said Slovin was trying to retrieve a golf ball near the pond when he lost his balance and fell into the waist-high water.
The other man also said he tried to rescue Slovin, but i took about five minutes to locate Slovin in the muddy water. Slovin was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS responders.
