Player diary: Alabama's Emma Talley (Part 2)

Sometimes life can get hectic, and the past week my life has been the definition of hectic. Everything from golf tournaments, tests, workouts, planning, doctors and of course social life has made things crazy. Our last tournament was the Mason Rudolph hosted by Vanderbilt in Franklin, Tenn. I was very excited for the tournament because it is somewhat close to my hometown (Princeton, Ky.) and several of my friends and family were coming to watch – and it was also where the NCAA Championships was held two years ago when Alabama won. I loved the course the minute I got there, however the first day did not go too well for me. Fortunately, I came around the last two days and got a top-15 finish. The sad part is that our team did not play as well as two years ago and we finished in the middle of the pack. The trip back to campus was different than two years ago too, I would assume. With a finish that was unacceptable to our team, we had to start making things happen. Since we got back, the team has been working really hard at practice and trying to figure out how we can improve. Our next tournament is in Chapel Hill, N.C., and hopefully we will have a better showing than we did at Vanderbilt. And with the hectic golf schedule, we also had to catch up on school and just everyday chores.
On top of practice, early morning workouts and homework, I had to start taking allergy shots again. This is the second time in my life that I am having to go through allergy shots. When I got tested the doctors told me that on a scale of one to five, a one was not bad at all and a five was the worst. Ironically, I had was at five for trees, grasses and basically everything outside on the golf course. Therefore, even though I do not like getting three shots twice a week, I know it will eventually help me.
Getting back to campus is always hectic after a tournament and with everything going on in my life, I was getting a little stressed until I remembered that I was going to see my first football game of the year – Alabama vs. Ole Miss. One cool thing about game day in Tuscaloosa is that everyone gets dressed up. I got to show my country side and wore my cowboy boots and red lipstick! The game was so much fun and the No. 1 Crimson Tide beat the Rebels, 25-0. It was just a fun weekend for sports in Tuscaloosa with several of my friends on campus having different games. My friends on the soccer team won both of their games and tennis did well, too. The Crimson Tide baseball team also had their first scrimmage. It is great to have friends who are athletes here at Alabama because I have never had friends that understand the hard work and challenges that come with being a student-athlete.
This is Homecoming weekend here at Alabama and there is a lot going on and it is going to be so much fun. My two best friends are coming down to Alabama to see me over their fall break. We are going to the football game and they will get to meet all my friends. However, my friends may not be happy when they have to go watch me practice! They always joke around and say, “golf, golf, golf, golf, golf.”
Y’all come back now, ya hear? Roll Tide!
