Mother Nature is making it just a little difficult for the Presidents Cup with rain forcing postponements the first two days and now four of the six second days foursomes matches will continue into Saturday’s third day of matches.

With those four matches resuming on Saturday morning, the captains have opted to wait until after the Friday foursomes are completed to determine their parings for Saturday’s five four-ball matches.

“After meeting with the captains we thought in the best interests of the competition we thought it would be more appropriate to do the third round pairings tomorrow morning, approximately 8:00,” PGA Tour Rules Director Steve Carman said. “The plan is to resume tomorrow morning at 7:30, do the third round pairings at 8 and try and start the third round at 8:33 with an hour delay of the original published starting times."

With some questionable weather in the forecast for Saturday and even worse weather forecast for Sunday, Monday is looking like a real option to finish the matches.

But according to Carman, a document governing the match mandates the matches won’t go past Monday.

“If we don't finish by sunset on Monday, then the team with the most points at that point would be declared the winner,” Carmen disclosed.

LEFTY DOMINANT IN FOURSOMES: Phil Mickelson had played in 17 foursomes matches before Friday’s session. With a record of 9-6-2, the left-hander was just one victory behind Tiger Woods for the most wins in U.S. history in the Presidents Cup.

Now, he is tied with Woods.

With a 4-and-3 victory over Graham DeLaet and Jason Day, Mickelson and partner Keegan Bradley were dominant, but it has not been unusual for Mickelson to dominate in his foursomes victories.

In four of his 10 wins, Mickelson has ended his matches on either the 14th or 15th holes, and if not for a conceded 19-foot birdie to the Internationals, Mickelson’s 10th win would have been 5-and-3 victory.

CHANGED BY THE RAIN: After 0.82 inches of rain fell on the second day of Presidents Cup, the officials decided to implement a lift, clean and place policy with all the matches when they restarted late Friday afternoon.

At the time only two groups had made the turn and neither had finished the 10th hole.

The U.S. was up in three matches, the Internationals were up in two and one was all square before the rains came.

Within three minutes of the horn sounding to restart play, Spieth and Woods made birdie putts to stretch their leads, and Day missed an 8-footer to go 4 down through 10 holes in his match.

ELS' RECORD VICTORY: Ernie Els won his seventh foursomes match in the Presidents Cup, making him the all-time foursomes leader on the International side.

Coming into this year, Els was tied with Vijay Singh at six victories, but the 4-and-3 win over Bill Haas and Hunter Mahan gave Els his seventh victory, this time alongside Brendon de Jonge.

Els' previous foursomes victories came in 1996 with Greg Norman, 1998 with Singh, two victories in 2003 with Adam Scott, and again with Scott in 1999.
