New year already wraps around for Tour
Wednesday, October 9, 2013
The team stuff over, it’s back to work. And don’t look now, but that’s the 2014 season staring you in the face.
That’s right, this week’s Frys.com Open kicks off the wrap-around season – and apparently the Presidents Cup didn’t take too much out of them because three members of the Muirfield Village Golf Club cast are teeing it up this week at CordeValle Golf Club in San Martin, Calif.: Angel Cabrera, Marc Leishman and Hideki Matsuyama.
Gary Woodland is in the field, and he’ll debut his new caddie, veteran Tony Navarro.
The first tournament brought about the first Monday qualifier. That means the first list of notable names who prove just how tough this PGA Tour business can be. Among those who took on the 18-hole test at Bayonet, but failed, were Joe Ogilvie, Michael Letzig, Scott McCarron and Rod Pampling.
Doug LaBelle birdied six of his last 10 holes to shoot 67 and earn a spot into the Frys.
