Three-way tie for lead at SAS Championship
Friday, October 11, 2013
Russ Cochran, Larry Nelson and Mark Mouland each shot 6-under 66 in the first round the Champions Tour’s SAS Championship at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, N.C.
There is a five-way tie – Mike Goodes, Michael Allen, David Frost, Kirk Triplett and Bernhard Langer – for second at 5 under.
Nick Faldo made his Champions tour debut this week, but it was short lived. He was forced to withdraw after 12 holes due to an arm injury.
“I’ve got a torn capsule (in my left arm). I’ve been doing fine, but now I can’t grip the (club),” Faldo said following the round. He was 1 over through 12 holes.
He played six holes after he agitated it on Friday
Faldo, 56, was teeing it up for the first time since missing the cut at the British Open at Muirfield in July.
He is scheduled to play in next week’s Greater Hickory Kia Classic at Rock Barn.
“I want to play, that’s the bottom line,” he said. “But this is real, I’ve got a tear in my capsule.”
