Northwestern freshman Matt Fitzpatrick went 26 holes before making his first bogey at the Rod Myers Invitational.
Fitzpatrick, the U.S. Amateur champion, is in first after the second round of the tournament, which is being held at Duke Golf Club in Durham, N.C., and leads teammate Jack Perry by two. He shot 67-68, which includes 10 birdies and a bogey.
With Fitzpatrick and Perry one-two on the leaderboard, Northwestern also leads the tournament as a team at 13-under 563, 12 shots better than North Carolina and Baylor.
Fitzpatrick is looking for his first collegiate victory. In his first three starts, he finished T-53 at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational, T-3 at the Windon Memorial and T-23 at the Erin Hills Intercollegiate.
The third round will be played Oct. 13.
