Jamieson ties Euro record; Waring leads in Portugal
Saturday, October 12, 2013
Englishman Paul Waring leads the Portugal Masters by two after a third-round 4-under 67 for a 16-under 197 total.
Waring had a share of the overnight lead with Hennie Otto and David Lynn, and birdied the 16th and 17th holes to take sole possession of the lead.
Scott Jamieson tied a European Tour record by firing an 11-under 60 at Oceanico Victoria Golf Course in Algarve, Portugal on Saturday. Jamieson made 11 birdies, including a stretch on Nos. 4-7.
After sinking a birdie on the 13th hole, Jamieson told his caddie "a few more and we could be part of history."
"I was definitely nervous," Jamieson said. "But thinking about it from the tournament point of view, the leaders are going to be a minimum of 16, 17 maybe 18 under going into tomorrow. So that kept me going from a pushing point of view."
Jamieson is tied for second with Otto, Simon Thornton and Jamie Donaldson at 14 under.
Another shot back are Alvaro Quiros, Chris Doak and Pablo Larrazabal heading into the final round on Sunday.
