U.S. Amateur champion and Northwestern freshman Matt Fitzpatrick captured his first college victory Oct. 13 when he was named co-medalist with senior teammate Jack Perry at the Rod Myers Invitational.
The duo led Northwestern to the team title at 10-under 854, three shots ahead of Baylor. Host Duke finished third at 1-over 865. The event is named after longtime Duke coach Rod Myers, who died in March 2007.
Fitzpatrick and Perry finished at 9-under 207 at Duke Golf Club in Durham, N.C. Baylor’s Kyle Jones was third at 8-under 206. It was Northwestern’s second team title of the year, with a victory at Windon Memorial Classic in September.
Northwestern’s Matt Negri tied for 16th, followed by Bennett Lavin (T-42) and Joshua Jamieson (T-57).
