Jimmy Walker earned his first PGA Tour victory at the Frys.com Open, and part of his success can be attributed to changes with his driver.

Off the tee, Walker uses a Titleist 913D2 driver that is 44.5 inches in length. He recently went half an inch shorter to tighten his dispersion. The driver is equipped with an Aldila Rogue shaft.

Said Stewart Bahl, Aldila's marketing manager, about the Rogue: “Because of the extremely high-end, high-performance materials that are used in the construction of the Rogue shaft, it has very limited availability. Typically the materials are incorporated into extremely high-performance military projects, and Aldila is one of the first companies to have access to the materials for commercial use.”

MORE DRIVER SHAFTS: On the Champions Tour, Russ Cochran won the SAS Championship with a UST Mamiya Proforce V2 shaft in his TaylorMade SLDR driver (10.5 degree). Cobra staff player Lexi Thompson used a Cobra AMP Cell driver (8.5 degree) with a Fujikura ZCom Six X shaft. She is one of a few women on the LPGA strong enough to use an X-flex shaft in a driver.

SHORT SHOTS: Scott Jamieson shot a third round 60 at the Portugal Masters. He played Nike’s yet-to-be-released Covert Tour 2.0 driver. He also used Nike’s new 2014 ball. The company has not released the name of the ball or any of the details about its construction. . . . At the Frys.com, Stewart Cink used a new 12-degree SLDR driver from TaylorMade. Yes, 12 degrees. With the center of gravity placed low and forward in the SLDR driver, many players, including Cink, choose to use more loft to achieve the proper trajectory. . . . Cink also used a TaylorMade Daddy Long Legs putter for the first time. . . . Other putter observations: Walker used a Scotty Cameron by Titleist Tour Rat prototype, and former U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover carried a Mr. Beasley putter from Rife. The putter is named after one of the original Rife partners.
