Golfweek's 2013-14 senior amateur schedule
Monday, October 28, 2013
Golfweek’s 2013-14 senior amateur tournament schedule is complete. The lineup includes an April return to PGA West that will feature two rounds on the Stadium Course and one on the Nicklaus course. Mark these dates on your calendar:
Dec. 2-4, 2013, Golfweek Senior Tour Championship – 1000 pts.
PGA National Resort & Spa, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
Join us as Golfweek honors John W. Harrigan, past Society of Seniors executive secretary, as the 2013 Yancey Ford Award recipient.
With 1000 points up for grabs, anyone near the top of the rankings has a chance to walk away with player-of-the-year honors. The Tour Championship will be contested on the new Fazio course, formerly known as The Haig. Originally designed by George and Tom Fazio in tribute to PGA Champion Walter Hagen, it has recently been renovated by Tom Fazio II, whose goal was to modernize the course layout.
Jan. 16-18, 2014, Golfweek Senior National Championship – 800 pts.
Saddlebrook Resort, Tampa, Fla.
Join us at Golfweek’s first tournament of 2014, where we will honor the 2013 Golfweek Player of the Year. Top seniors Bill Zylstra, Chip Lutz, Paul Schlacter, Doug Hanzel and Paul Simson are in contention for the honor.
The Saddlebrook course, a par-70, 6,564-yard layout, is a challenge for the expert golfer, and one that requires a wide range of shots. The signature hole is the 425-yard 18th, which puts a premium on accuracy off the tee.
April 13-15, 2014, Golfweek Senior Amateur – 1000 pts.
PGA West, La Quinta, Calif.
April is the perfect time for our annual trek to the land of lush green fairways with distant views of snow-capped mountains. The West Coast tournament returns to the Golfweek schedule, and PGA West will again be the host.
The Stadium Course, known as a challenge for the elite player, and the Nicklaus course, the site for Round 1 this year, present different sets of challenges.
Nov. 2014, Golfweek Senior Match Play Championship - 1200 pts.
South Carolina area
The crown jewel of the 2014 Golfweek tournament schedule will be the new Golfweek Senior Match Play Championship. This invitational event will award the top 64 senior amateurs on the Golfweek Senior Amateur Rankings, as of July 1, 2014, an invitation to compete in this prestigious event.
The winner must survive six matches to hoist the Golfweek Senior Match Play trophy. Each player will be guaranteed a minimum of three tournament rounds. Players who fall in match play will enter the stroke-play portion on the following day, with a new player’s pool.
