Cobra Puma Tour Trusty wedges
Cobra Puma Golf has unveiled a comprehensive line of wedges called Tour Trusty.
Comprehensive, in this case, means 11 different loft and bounce options, starting with a 48-degree wedge (8 degrees of bounce) and going all the way to 64 degrees (also 8 degrees of bounce).
In between, the lofts are 50, 52, 54, 56, 58, 60 and 62 degrees. Bounce is as high as 12 degrees in one of the 56-degree models and as low as 6 degrees in one of the 60-degree models.
The exact loft/bounce combinations: 48/8, 50/8, 52/8, 54/10, 56/12, 56/8, 58/8, 60/10, 60/6, 62/8, 64/8.
Cobra Puma previously released a limited edition Rickie Fowler version of the Tour Trusty 56-degree wedge, but now the entire line of new wedges will be available Oct. 1. The retail cost for any of the wedges is $119.
These are pro-inspired wedges. While it is true that Cobra’s entire touring staff helped design these wedges through testing and constructive comments during the developmental process, the man behind the Tour Trusty is teaching pro Phil Rodgers.
It was Rodgers, a former NCAA champion and five-time PGA Tour winner, who advised Jack Nicklaus in his prime about his wedge game. “He called me,” said Rodgers, 75. “After that, I would say his wedge game improved significantly.”
Rodgers, known as one of the first short-game authorities, has designed various wedges for Cobra in the past 30 years. This includes the predecessor to Tour Trusty – the Trusty Rusty.
Tour Trusty is different. For starters, it doesn’t have a raw finish and won’t rust. It is available in two finishes, Tour Matte Satin and Tour Matte Black PVD.
Tour Trusty has a compact tour-style head (thin top line, straight leading edge) without offset. It features a Tour Notch K-Grind, intended to allow players to take advantage of both heel relief and toe relief for various types of pitch shots around the green.
“Golfers with skills are really going to like these, but they also will help everybody around the greens,” Rodgers said.
Other Tour Trusty specs: The heads are made of soft 8620 carbon steel to promote feel and control. The shaft is a True Temper Dynamic Gold S200, outfitted with a Golf Pride New Decade MultiCompound Whiteout grip.
