U.S. TEAM SELECTIONS

Webb Simpson

Age: 28

Career record: 3-2-0

Years participated: 2011

Season highlights: Simpson has still yet to win since his 2012 U.S. Open victory, but he came close at the RBC Heritage, where he lost in a playoff. That was one of four top 10s for Simpson this season on the PGA Tour. He also finished in the top 25 in four straight events before the Deutsche Bank Championship.

• • •

Jordan Spieth

Age: 20

Years participated: Making first appearance

Season highlights: Spieth entered the season with no status on any tour. But after seven top-10 finishes, including a victory at the John Deere Classic and a runner-up finish at the Wyndham Championship (both in playoffs), Spieth earned his PGA Tour card and qualified for the FedEx Cup playoffs.

INTERNATIONAL TEAM SELECTIONS

Marc Leishman

Age: 29

Years participated: Making first appearance

Season highlights: Leishman is coming off a T-16 finish at the Deutsche Bank Championship, just his second top 20 since mid-May. Prior to that he had a stretch that included a T-4 finish at the Masters, a T-9 showing at the RBC Heritage, a T-8 finish at the Players and a T-12 performance at the Byron Nelson in consecutive weeks.

Brendon de Jonge

Age: 33

Season highlights: Another first-timer with this pick, and he's enjoying a solid season, making 23 of 28 cuts and earning just over $1.5 million with four top-10 finishes. His T-6 finish at the Waste Management Phoenix Open is his season's best.
