Hello, everyone!

My name is Bethany Wu and I’m from Diamond Bar, Calif. I’m a junior at Diamond Bar High School and I have verbally committed to play collegiate golf at UCLA. Golf has been a big part of my life for the past 10 years. I started playing local junior tournaments when I was 8 and started playing AJGA events when I was 12. Because of those AJGA events, I’ve traveled to states that I would never have thought I’d get to see in my life, and that wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for my parents. They’ve supported me ever since I started playing golf, and I’m so thankful and blessed that they travel with me everywhere I go. I don’t think I would be where I am today if it weren’t for them.

My father introduced me to the game of golf. When I was 6, I was on the driving range watching him hit shots, and after one shot, I randomly yelled, “Nice shot!” We all started laughing. That was when my parents knew that I should play golf. I started at a Nike junior golf camp at a local golf course, and I went up from there. Now I work with Greg Castleman, and I’ve been working with him for about five years now. Ever since we started working together, my game has exceeded my expectations.

This past golf season started off with a bang: winning the 2013 Annika Invitational. It’s always an honor to play in Annika’s tournament, and this year was pretty great. I won by three shots and posted a tournament-record 10-under 206. It was the best way to start off my year, and it gave me lots of confidence going into the rest of the invitationals in the summer. Some of my highlights of the summer were playing in the Wyndham Cup, (GO WEST!), reaching the semifinals at the U.S. Girls’ Junior, and best of all, representing Team USA at the Junior Solheim Cup. Now that was the best week of my life so far. GO USA!

My next event is the Ping Invitational in mid-October. Last year, I finished third, and the cool thing was, it was my first time playing at Karsten Creek., and wow was that course a tough test. I hope I can do better this year, but I know it won’t be easy. Hopefully next time I write, I’ll bring back good news!

Have a great day and don’t forget: Whistles go Wu Wu!
