The AJGA has shaved six more minutes off the tour's average round.

The pace of play for an AJGA tournament round in 2013 averaged 4 hours and 17 minutes, the association announced Wednesday.

The AJGA’s pace-of-play policy was implemented in 2002. The AJGA establishes an “overall time par” for each course played, which is focused on the ability of junior golfers playing in threesomes.

In 2012, the AJGA averaged 4 hours, 23 minutes. In November 2012, the AJGA announced that it would allow distance-measuring devices at its tournaments in 2013, and the goal was set for 4 hours, 19 minutes for 102 tournaments.

“We are incredibly proud of these results,” said Stephen Hamblin, executive director of the AJGA, which is based in Braselton, Ga. “One of the first questions AJGA juniors ask in the scoring tents is, ‘how fast were we?’ One of the best benefits is also that they aren’t just playing fast at our events. They are taking fast play back to other junior golf events. We are developing golf’s next generation to contribute to an industry solution.”

The AJGA keeps record of each competitive round. At the AJGA Kansas Junior at Buffalo Dunes, players turned in the fastest overall average pace of play: 3 hours, 50 minutes. The pairing of Emily Campbell, Daniela Darquea and Courtney Dow played the first round in 3 hours, 23 minutes. Darquea won the event, and Campbell and Dow tied for second.

Wes Artac fired a 10-under 62 to win the Genesis Shootout presented by the Valero Texas Open in less than 4 hours.
