Player diary: Bethany Wu (Part 6)
I just wanted to update everyone with what I’ve been up to lately. I recently played in the KNC Champions Junior Challenge, which was a team event/junior-only qualifier for the Kraft Nabisco Championship. There were 39 juniors from all over California, and a team consisted of three juniors and one mentor. The mentors were past champions of the KNC, and my mentor was Annika Sorenstam. I was very nervous because the woman I looked up to all my life was standing there watching me each shot. I really enjoyed it and was thankful that she came out. I ended up shooting even par, and missed the playoff by two shots, which was a bit disappointing, but we learn from our mistakes and move on.
School-wise, I’m on spring break. And it started off with a bang, literally, with the 5.3 earthquake near where I live. It was the biggest earthquake I’ve ever experienced. My family and I were so scared to the point that we were afraid to sleep at night. I heard that there were more than 100 aftershocks. Scary! After spring break, we go straight to testing season. It’s when we take the California Standard tests, AP exams, IB exams, etc. I’m super nervous for the AP Calc exam, but I’m still aiming for that 5 though.
Now, I’m prepping for my next tournament, the Thunderbird International Junior. It’s in the end of May so I have about two months to get my game back into shape. I’m working on hitting the ball pure consistently with my coach Greg Castleman. There are just a few little things that just need a bit of tweaking. Let’s just hope that they’ll be fixed by Thunderbird! Well, I must get back to practicing, so until next time…
Whistles go Wu Wu!
