Wyoming hosts Cowboy, Cowgirl Classics in Arizona

Twenty teams will tee off Monday and Tuesday at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz., for the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic. Meanwhile, at the Talking Stick North Course in Scottsdale, Ariz., 22 teams will play the Wyoming Cowboy Classic.

Cowgirl Classic

The field includes Boise State, BYU, Eastern Washington, Lamar, Montana, Montana State, Nevada, New Mexico State, Northern Colorado, Oral Roberts, Portland State, Sacramento State, Santa Clara, Seattle, Southern Utah, Tulsa, Utah Valley, Texas-El Paso, Weber State and Wyoming.

"This is great conference tournament prep, because course conditions are very similar with the type of grass, the heat," said Wyoming head coach Josey Stender in a release. "For us, transitioning from 30, 40 degrees, it's nice to have a week to prep and get used to it."

Last year, Boise State took the tournament title with a 37-over 901. They topped runner-up Xavier by 19 strokes.

Cowboy Classic

Some highly ranked teams will tee off Monday and Tuesday.

The field includes Air Forice, Arizona State (No. 30), BYU (No. 44), Colorado, Gonzaga, Idaho, Kansas State, Oklahoma (No. 14), Old Dominion, Santa Clara, Southern Utah, Texas-El Paso, Texas-Pan American, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, Utah, Utah State, Texas-San Antonio, Weber State and Wyoming.

Gonzaga took the title last year with a score of 574 through 36 holes. They topped runner-up Colorado by six strokes.
