In-state rivals face off at Hawkeye Invitational

Two top-50 teams in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings and in-state rivals might be the teams to beat in the Hawkeye-Great River Entertainment Invitational at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City.

The event will be played on Saturday and Sunday on the 7,239-yard, par-72 course and will give Iowa and Iowa State the chance to play for bragging rights and a win heading into conference tournament season.

The complete field includes Denver, DePaul, Iowa (No. 43), Iowa State (No. 50), Kansas, Marquette, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northern Illinois, Washington State and Wisconsin.

The Kansas Jayhawks took the title last year, beating out host Iowa by one stroke. Iowa senior Steven Ihm, winner of the 2013 Sunnehanna Amateur, took medalist honors last year.
