BYU holds on for West Coast Conference title

BYU out played Santa Clara in the final round to win the West Coast Conference Championship Tuesday. This is the team’s first conference championship since the 2006-07 season.
No. 42 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College rankings, the Cougars finished the final round with a 6-over 294 for a four shot win. Santa Clara finished at 14 over. San Francisco finished in third with a three-round total of 15-over 879. St. Mary’s (Calif.) shot 17-over 305 in the final round in Bremerton, Wash., to finish fourth. Pacific and Pepperdine tied for fifth at 20 over.
Pacific’s Byron Meth ran away with the individual title at Gold Mountain Golf Club’s Olympic course. Meth, a junior, picked up us his collegiate victory with rounds of 66-71-71 for a 8-under 208 total.
St. Mary’s Alex Bungert and San Francisco’s Jobim Carlos finished in a tie for second at 1-under 215, seven shots behind Meth.
