The Atlantic Sun Championship turned into a battle of top-50 teams as Mercer beat out Kennesaw State on Tuesday to claim the crown.

The Bears, led by medalist Trey Rule, posted a 10-over 874 at The Legends Course of Chateau Elan in Braselton, Ga. Mercer placed three golfers in the top 10 at the par-72, 6,971-yard course, finishing six strokes ahead of runner-up Kennesaw State.

Rule, a junior, won the individual title after shooting a 1-under 215 through 54 holes. Rule finished the final eight holes bogey-free and with one birdie en route to the win. Mercer's James Beale tied for second after shooting 2-over 218.

Mercer, which has 10 top-five finishes in 11 events this year, broke North Florida's two-year win streak at the conference tournament.

East Tennessee State (21 over), North Florida (31 over) and Lipscomb (51 over) rounded out the top five behind Mercer and Kennesaw State.

Kennesaw State's Austin Vick competed for medalist honors with Trey Rule down the stretch, but bogeys on Nos. 17-18 dropped him out of contention and into a tie for second along with Beale and teammate Teremoana Beaucousin. readers: We value your input and welcome your comments, but please be respectful in this forum.
