Georgia Southern did not place a golfer in the top three of the tournament, but managed to take the Southern Conference Championship by one stroke Tuesday at the National Golf Club in Pinehurst, N.C.

Charlie Martin, Will Evans and Scott Wolfes each placed in the top 10 for Georgia Southern en route to a 9-over 873 finish, which was one stroke better than Chattanooga. Georgia Southern's Hayden Anderson carded a hole-in-one on the 160-yard, par-3 ninth – just another ace for the senior.

Each of the top five teams were within seven strokes of the lead, including UNC-Greensboro (13 over), Western Carolina (14 over) and Davidson (16 over).

Western Carolina's J.T. Poston, the No. 23 player in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, took medalist honors, finishing at 10-under 206. Poston carded five birdies and an eagle en route to a 6-under 66 in the second round of the event. He started his final round with a double bogey on the par-4 first hole, but bounced back with three birdies to finish even par.

The win was Georgia Southern's first Southern Conference victory since 2011.
