Ko, 17, makes Time's "most influential people" list
Thursday, April 24, 2014
It wouldn’t be surprising to learn that Lydia Ko has never read an issue of Time. After all, she only turned 17 on April 24. Her airplane reading list is more likely to include, well, Seventeen.
Chances are, however, Ko will pick up a copy of the May 5 issue as she’s named one of Time’s 100 most influential people in the world. Ko, the only golfer to make the list, already has won twice on the LPGA and is currently ranked fourth in the world.
Ko will celebrate her birthday on Thursday by playing alongside former teen phenom Michelle Wie, a former Time 100 honoree, and Stacy Lewis at the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic just outside San Francisco.
Annika Sorenstam wrote about Ko in the issue.
“Lydia Ko is exceptionally talented, mature beyond her years and well liked by golf fans and competitors alike,” Sorenstam wrote. “She is responsible for sparking increased interest in our sport not just in her native South Korea and adopted homeland of New Zealand but also among juniors across the globe.”
