UF commit Caparros to turn pro after high school

Saturday, April 26, 2014

Kristian Caparros' Twitter handle is @kcshowtime2. Next year, he plans to take the show to the pro ranks.

The Hollywood, Fla., native is a junior at Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage. He's committed to play college golf at the University of Florida in 2015, but he likely won't ever hit a shot for the Gators.

"I plan to turn pro, but I'm still committed there so no matter what I still have an open door there," Caparros said Friday at the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley, where he is tied for fourth at even par after two rounds.

Caparros said he made the decision a while ago and had already informed the Florida coaches well before head coach Buddy Alexander announced his plan to retire at the end of the season.

As for his pro options, Caparros said he will play qualifying tournaments for PGA Tour Canada, PGA Tour Latinoamerica and Web.com Tour. Earlier this month, he played PGA Tour Canada Q-School as an amateur and earned conditional status – he finished the event with double bogey and quadruple bogey, otherwise he would have earned full status.

"I've just been playing a lot with the pros lately and that's why I decided I'm probably going to turn pro," said Caparros, who attends the same high school as Jorge Garcia, another top junior and Florida commit for 2015. "But I'm not going to turn pro yet. I want to finish my high school career."
