Stanford seals Pac-12 title on final stretch

Casey Danielson and the Stanford Cardinal won the Pac-12 Championship by one stroke.

The Stanford women's golf team needed all 54 holes to win the Pac-12 Championship. The Cardinal headed into the final day of play down by four strokes, but charged back to beat Arizona by one stroke.

The Wildcats went 6 over in their final four holes, losing the lead to Stanford and the conference championship at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis, Ore.

Stanford, the No. 4 team in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, finished with a 5-over 869 for the tournament. Mariah Stackhouse, Lauren Kim and Casey Danielson led the team at 3-over 219, tying for ninth place.

No. 2 UCLA headed into the final 18 holes with a four-stroke lead at 3 under, but it dropped 10 strokes on Sunday, falling to 7 over and a spot in fourth place.

No. 1 USC, the reigning NCAA Champion, finished with Arizona in a tie for second, just one stroke back from the Cardinal.

UCLA's Alison Lee took medalist honors, finishing at 5-under 211. Lee shot a 3-under 69 on the final day of the event behind four birdies.

No. 6 Arizona State rounded out the top 5 at 19 over.
