Rice made history Tuesday by capturing the school's first men's golf conference title.

A year after finishing 11th, the Owls used a final-round 6-over 286 to edge favorite Alabama-Birmingham by one shot at the Conference USA Championship at Oak Tree Golf Club in Edmond, Okla. Rice finished at 21-over 861, followed by UAB (22 over) and Tulsa (26 over).

Rice's previous best finish at the C-USA Championship was a tie for second in 2010. The victory also comes after Rice lost a former player, James Ragan, to cancer in February. (Click here to read more about Ragan.)

Tulsa did boast the top two individual finishers, though, as Matt Mabrey (1-under 209) took medalist honors and Logan McCracken (211) finished runner-up. Rice placed two golfers among the top 10 in Tommy Economou (third) and Kevin Reilly (T-4).
