Favorite: Lee Westwood

Don’t forget about: Sergio Garcia

Keep an eye on: Ryan Moore

Sleeper: Brian Harman

Comments: Westwood has played well here each of the last two years (T-4, T-5) and is coming off of a much-needed win in Malaysia, albeit against a weak field. Seems to be time for Garcia to step it up a notch, eh? And both Moore (T-5, T-6 the last two years) and Harman (T-10 last year) appear quite comfortable with the Quail Hollow Club.

Favorite: Rory McIlroy

Don't forget about: Justin Rose

Keep an eye on: Lee Westwood

Sleeper: Rickie Fowler

Comments: Yes, McIlroy has fallen out of the world top 10, but he's playing better than than might indicate, with eight top 10s in his last 11 starts worldwide, including at Houston and the Masters. Plus, he would have won the Wells Fargo last year (T-10) if he'd had a decent putting week. . . . Rose starting to show good form after shoulder injury. He has three top-15 finishes in his last four Tour starts, including a pair of T-8s. . . . Obviously Westwood moved through swing transition quickly and has figured something out, given his seventh at Masters and victory at Maybank Malaysian Open in his last two starts. Plus, the Englishman contended at Quail Hollow last year. . . . Fowler has been sixth at Houston and T-5 at the Masters in two of his last three starts. Plus, his lone Tour victory was at Quail two years ago.

Winner: Rory McIlroy

Don’t forget about: Jim Furyk, Phil Mickelson

Keep an eye on: Rickie Fowler, Webb Simpson

Sleepers: Ben Martin, Chesson Hadley

McIlroy has made a good living at this tournament, winning in 2010, losing in a playoff in 2012, and even grabbing a T-10 last year while figuring out his driver. . . . Furyk won here in 2006 and was runner-up in 2005 and 8-for-8 in cuts made this season (no worse than T-20 since Valspar Championship). . . . Mickelson is starting his run to the U.S. Open and usually is in the mix here. His play this year has us wondering, what will Phil do next? . . . Fowler is a past champ and has been hot or cold. Coming of a missed cut in New Orleans, I expect him to be hot this week. . . . Simpson will enjoy some home-cooking and local knowledge at Quail Hollow. Martin has gone T-3, T-15 the last two weeks and has locked up his card for next year. Now he can free wheel it. . . . Hadley is a North Carolina native who’s enjoying a terrific rookie campaign. He’s made six cuts in a row. I say he’ll make it seven and possibly contend.
