Watney stretches Barracuda lead in Reno
Friday, August 1, 2014
It wasn't his 18-point opener, but with 8 points in Friday's second round Nick Watney expanded his lead to three points in the Barracuda Championship in Reno, Nev.
Watney made the turn with two points in the modified Stableford point system after two birdies against two bogeys. He then picked up three birdies on a bogey-free back nine to raise his two-round total to 26 points.
"I would have liked to have made a few more putts, but overall, if you would have told me 26 points after two days I would take it every time," Watney told Associated Press.
Geoff Ogilvy remains second after a seven-point second round with 23 points, with Wes Roach another point back. Tommy Gainey and Tim Wilkinson are third with 21 points.
"The elevation makes it hard anyway, or awkward, and you add in that wind that goes from nothing to 20 miles an hour and back, gusting and spinning around down different directions, it feels like. It's really awkward out there," Ogilvy said.
Jeff Overton, Greg Chalmers and Rory Sabbatini had Friday's best rounds with 13 points each. Among the notables to miss the cut: Stuart Appleby, Davis Love III and John Daly.
