LOUISVILLE, Ky. – David Toms withdrew from the 96th PGA Championship on Tuesday, citing lingering issues with his back. He also had withdrawn from the Barracuda Championship last week.

Shawn Stefani will take Toms' place in the field. John Huh is the new first alternate.

Woods' timetable uncertain; caddie at Valhalla

Toms is 117th in the FedEx Cup standings, with the top 125 advancing to the first round of the playoffs in two weeks. Toms has made 11 of 18 cuts in 2014, with two top-10 finishes.

Stefani still is looking for his first PGA Tour title, losing to Justin Rose in a playoff at the Quicken Loans National earlier this season.
