JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – It was a thrilling Saturday at the Atlanta Athletic Club, with Gunn Yang winning in sudden death, and Corey Conners holding on despite a water ball on his final hole.

Yang and Gunn will face off in Sunday's 36-hole final at the 114th U.S. Amateur starting at 9 a.m., with the restart scheduled for 2:20 p.m.

Conners was a semifinalist in 2013, while this is Yang's first-ever USGA event.

Championship Match: Gunn Yang vs. Corey Conners, 9:00 a.m. (2:20 p.m. for final 18)

Yang def. Seth Reeves (1 up); Paul Howard (1 up); Ollie Schniederjans (1 up); Carson Young (2 up); Frederick Wedel (19 holes)

Conners def. Scottie Scheffler (1 up); Jesse Heinly (4 and 3); Jon Rahm (3 and 2); Zachary Olsen (2 and 1); Denny McCarthy (1 up)

STEIN: Conners. Our friends to the North have been firing on all cylinders all summer long, and it is only a matter of time before one of them is going to break through for a victory. Since getting past his semifinal match, something he couldn’t do last year in Boston, it only seems appropriate that Conners comes out the victor. He had plans to turn pro after the World Amateur Team Championship, but those look to be put on hold for the time being although his game seems ready. He has been spot-on with driver, irons and putting all week and I don’t see why it won’t continue Sunday in the scheduled 36-hole final.

MASUDA: Yang. This is fitting of trip to Disneyworld, or at least Disneyland, about a three-hour trip from Yang's San Diego home. The 20-year-old has defied the odds over and over and over and over . . . you get my drift. A lucky bounce on Friday, a back-and-forth match on Saturday, the kid has been put through the ringer. This is Yang's coming-out party. readers: We value your input and welcome your comments, but please be respectful in this forum.
