Kingsbarns Golf Links has played host to several golf tournaments since opening 14 years ago, including the European Tour's Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and Open Final Qualifying.

Now, it will get its first major championship.

Located in St. Andrews, Scotland, Kingsbarns will serve as the venue for the 2017 Ricoh Women's British Open, it was announced Friday.

“People have said many flattering things about our course and facilities since we opened in 2000, but being selected to host our first major championship is the greatest accolade of all," said Art Dunkley, director of Kingsbarns Golf Links.

Kingsbarns is ranked second on Golfweek's Best GB&I Modern Courses list.

Scotland will also host next year's Women's British with Turnberry's Ailsa course as the host venue.
