First up on our men's 2014 fall countdown, No. 30 Houston:
Editor's note: The rankings are those of our college expert, Lance Ringler, as he looked ahead to the collegiate preseason. The official Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings won't be available until a couple of the weeks into the fall season. Our staff of Andy Zunz, Cassie Stein and Brentley Romine are writing the individual profiles of the teams.

Preseason rank: 30
Final 2013-14 Golfweek/Sagarin ranking: 10
2013-14 in review: The Cougars won four times last season, including three straight during the spring. They also nearly made match play at the NCAA Championship, finishing 10th. Roman Robledo won four individual titles for Houston while also leading the team with a 71.24 scoring average as a junior.
Notable departures: James Ross, Curtis Reed
Key returnees: Seniors Roman Robledo and Kyle Pilgrim
Newcomers of note: Freshmen Matt Williams, Alan de Bondt and Michael Perras
Circled on the fall calendar: Northern Intercollegiate, Sept. 5-7, Rich Harvest Farms, Sugar Grove, Ill.
Fall outlook: While Houston will lose some experience with the departures of Ross and Reed, Robledo’s presence atop the lineup should be a comforting one. In addition to winning four times a season ago, Robledo is also coming off a quarterfinals appearance at the U.S. Amateur. Pilgrim, who won his fall opener last season, is the other senior in the lineup while juniors Blair Hamilton and Vincent Martino also saw significant time as sophomores. Williams leads this year’s freshman class for the Cougars. He’s one of four Canadians on the roster – Hamilton and sophomores Matt Scobie and Emmett Oh are the others.
Coach's perspective: "We have improved every season for the past five years and we want to continue that trend." – head coach Jonathan Dismuke
