Mississippi State Bulldogs
Preseason rank: 14
Final 2013/14 Golfweek/Sagarin ranking: 19
2013-14 in review: The Bulldogs drew considerable -- and well-deserved -- attention with a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Championship to close a historic season. Thanks in large part to Curtis Cupper Ally McDonald’s lead, Mississippi State has experienced extreme growth in the past two years (the team made its first national-championship appearance in the spring of 2013). The Bulldogs won their own event to close the fall and won again in Hawaii at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in the spring.
Notable departure: Mary Langdon Gallagher
Key returnees: Ally McDonald
Newcomers of note: Elsa Moberly, Haley Austin
Circled on fall calendar: Mason Rudolph
Fall outlook: With McDonald returning for her last season, this is the year for Mississippi State to give its grandest performance. Little has changed from last year, aside from losing a reliable No. 5 score from Gallagher. Count on Moberly or Austin to step up in that department, or even returners Gabi Oubre’ or Blaise Carabello. Based on its rise over the past two years, Mississippi State has the potential to be one the of great success stories of the season.
